about

This is WV, as in the fifth Wario album by sirqueue.

Side A encompasses tracks 1-10

It's a set of mostly frantic, rocky oddball stuff. I tried to stick to WarioWare DIY's rock band instruments on this set of tracks. I drew some inspiration from actual rock and pop songs, and tried to imagine different parts actually being played by different band members. I also cautiously approached a verse-chorus structure. Needless to say, I quickly and frequently strayed far from the concept (I mean, there is probably not a single chorus on the album). Nevertheless, the A-side of WV consists of rockier and more uptempo guitar band stuff than side B. There's even an Oasis cover on it, which was featured back in 2014 on the Goodbye Wi-Fi DIY compilation: dualmoderecords.bandcamp.com/album/goodbye-wi-fi-diy

Side B is comprised of tracks 11-19

The b-side contains darker, slower stuff. At least in theory. I did a lot of downpitching in WWDIY’s music player to get the right kind of lumbering sound. It’s more drum-based, percussive and downtempo. Hip-or-trip-hoppy, but of the intense variety. I wouldn’t call any of my WWDIY music laidback, but this set is on the heavier/slower side and it kinda has beats, and it has its distinctive vibe, which is a bit oppressive, and… tribal? I think I listened to a lot of Massive Attack back in 2012 when I made these tracks. Also NIN. Very 1999.

The penultimate track ”Input Lag", which is particularly lumbering, was the closer on the Goodbye Wi-Fi DIY compilation by Dual Mode Records: dualmoderecords.bandcamp.com/album/goodbye-wi-fi-diy
